What you are actually buying when you buy a luxury watch

A luxury watch is one of the few objects you can wear every day for decades and hand to someone else still working. That longevity is the whole point. It comes from a mechanical movement built to be serviced rather than replaced, a case machined to tolerances measured in hundredths of a millimetre, and finishing applied by hand to surfaces most owners will never see. When people ask what separates a luxury watch from an ordinary one, the honest answer is not the logo — it is that the object was designed with a fifty-year horizon.

Our collection spans that whole spectrum. There are automatic watches that wind themselves from the motion of your wrist, chronograph watches with stopwatch complications, slim dress watches made to disappear under a cuff, and dive watches engineered around real water resistance. Some are made for men, some for women, and a great many read comfortably on either wrist.

Prices in this collection run from accessible entry pieces to serious collector references. If you are working to a defined budget, start with affordable luxury watches or the price-bracketed pages for under $500 and under $1,000. If you are buying for someone else, the gift selection is organised around occasions rather than specifications.

How to choose from a collection this size

Four questions narrow several hundred watches down to a handful in about five minutes.

Start with wrist size, not brand

Case diameter matters more than any other single number. Under 6.5 inches of wrist circumference, look at 36–40mm. Between 6.5 and 7.5 inches, 39–42mm sits naturally. Above that, 42mm and up will not overwhelm you. A beautiful watch in the wrong diameter never gets worn.

Decide how it will be worn

A watch that spends its life under a suit cuff wants a slim case and a leather strap. A watch worn with everything wants a steel bracelet and at least 100m of water resistance. Buying for one context and wearing in another is the most common regret we hear.

Pick a movement you will maintain

Automatic and manual movements need servicing every five to seven years. Quartz needs a battery. Neither is superior — they are different ownership commitments, and both are represented throughout the collection.

Buy the condition you can live with

Every watch here is graded honestly. Excellent condition means light, normal wear consistent with careful ownership. We describe what we see rather than what sells, and the photographs are of the exact watch you receive.

Materials, movements and craftsmanship

The specification lines that appear on our product pages, in plain language.

Case materials
Predominantly stainless steel for its balance of hardness and weight, with gold and rose gold pieces through the collection for dressier wear.
Crystals
Sapphire crystal is the standard at this level — it resists scratching from everything short of diamond and keeps a dial legible for decades.
Movements
Self-winding automatic, hand-wound mechanical and precision quartz calibres, listed individually on each product page.
Finishing
Brushed and polished surfaces meeting at defined edges, applied dial indices, and hands finished to catch light at particular angles. This is where the hours go.
Water resistance
From 30m splash resistance on dress pieces to 200m and beyond on the sports and dive references.
