The men’s collection, and how it is put together
Men’s watchmaking has settled into a handful of archetypes over the last seventy years: the dive watch, the pilot’s watch, the chronograph, the dress watch, and the integrated-bracelet sports watch. Almost everything in this selection descends from one of those five. Understanding which archetype suits your life is more useful than comparing brands.
Sizing is the practical constraint. A 44mm case on a 6.5-inch wrist looks borrowed; a 36mm case on an 8-inch wrist looks apologetic. Our listings state case diameter, and our specialists will tell you honestly how a given reference wears — lug-to-lug distance often matters more than diameter alone.
Within the collection, the busiest categories are automatic daily wearers, chronographs for those who like a busier dial, and dive watches for anyone who wants one watch to do everything. For formal occasions, the slim dress watches are the correct answer, and for evening wear specifically, a gold case still outperforms everything else.
Choosing a men’s watch that gets worn
Owners who wear a watch daily made these decisions correctly at the outset.
Measure your wrist first
Wrap a tape measure around the flat part of your wrist. Under 6.5in: 36–40mm. 6.5–7.5in: 39–42mm. Over 7.5in: 41–45mm. This single number eliminates most bad purchases.
Check lug-to-lug, not just diameter
A 42mm watch with short lugs can wear smaller than a 40mm watch with long ones. If the lugs overhang the edge of your wrist, the watch will never sit properly.
One bracelet, one strap
A steel bracelet covers office and weekend; a leather strap dresses the same watch up. Many references here take standard lug widths, so you can own both for very little.
Match complications to habits
A GMT hand is worthless if you never travel; a chronograph is worthless if you never time anything. Buy the complication you will actually use, or buy a clean dial and enjoy the legibility.
The five archetypes in this collection
What each one is for, and who it suits.
- Dive watch
- Rotating bezel, 200m+ resistance, high-contrast dial. The most versatile single watch a man can own — see dive watches.
- Chronograph
- Two or three subdials and pushers at 2 and 4 o’clock. Busy, purposeful, historically tied to motorsport — see chronograph watches.
- Dress watch
- Slim case, two hands or three, minimal dial. Made to slide under a cuff — see dress watches.
- Pilot watch
- Large, legible, often with an oversized crown. Designed to be read at a glance in poor light.
- Integrated sports watch
- Bracelet flowing directly from the case, no lugs. The hardest category to size correctly and the most rewarding when you do.

Men's Luxury Watches — frequently asked questions
What size men’s watch should I buy?
Measure your wrist. Under 6.5 inches suits 36–40mm, 6.5–7.5 inches suits 39–42mm, and above 7.5 inches carries 41–45mm comfortably. Also check the lug-to-lug measurement.
Is an automatic or a quartz men’s watch better?
Neither is objectively better. Automatics are mechanically interesting and need servicing every five to seven years; quartz is more accurate and needs a battery. Most of our men’s collection is automatic.
Can one watch cover both office and weekend?
Yes — a 39–41mm dive or sports watch on a steel bracelet is the classic single-watch answer, and swapping to a leather strap dresses it up further.
Are these watches suitable for daily wear?
The sports and dive references certainly are. Dress watches with 30m resistance are better kept away from swimming and showers.
Do you offer men’s watches under $1,000?
Yes — see luxury watches under $1,000 for the qualifying references.
Can I have the bracelet resized?
Tell us your wrist measurement when you order and we will size the bracelet before it ships, at no charge.
